WHO WE ARE
Established in June 2016, CHAT (Change, Hope and Transformation) SA was borne out of a deep passion to motivate change, inspire hope and bring about transformation in the lives of vulnerable young women in South Africa.
CHAT SA operates in the disadvantaged communities of the Free State. We are reaching out to young girls (mothers and yet to be mothers) with little or no means of support for themselves and their families.
CHAT SA’s vision is to create better South African societies where young women are able to attain their full potential and accomplish their life purpose.
CHAT SA launched a pilot project in April 2017 to reach out to disadvantaged girls in Batho community. The project was mainly supported by Assupol life in collaboration with the Free State care in action: an NPO working with foster kids. The project was able to cater for 30 girls in order to improve their hygiene and self-esteem. Toilet packs which we tagged “my pride bag” were distributed. A health and motivational talk to encourage the girls by a health professional was also conducted. This went a long way in improving their attendance at school. In most cases school attendance for girls in this communities drop during their monthly menstrual period because they cannot afford these sanitary towels and accessories. Washable sanitary towel was among the toiletries in my pride bags that were distributed. The project also featured in the local newspaper available online
Its mission is to motivate change, inspire hope and bring about transformation in the lives of vulnerable young women in South Africa through various life changing programs and interventions, making a difference by empowering young women one community at a time.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
- To keep the girls busy as they learn some skill acquisition. This will go a long in reducing their vulnerability of being exposed to contracting HIV and AIDS.
- To empower the young girls in the Batho and Turflaagte communities and to enable them become independent, confident and self-reliant.
MISSION and VISION
- Most underprivileged girls in the communities (especially in the Free State) are so vulnerable and being taken advantage of because they’re idle doing nothing for a living.
- Few who go to school from these communities like Batho, Rocklands etc are forced to drop out of school due to economic hardships and early pregnancies.
Method
Chat SA will appreciate support from individuals and organisations as we work towards helping these young underprivileged girls in our communities as they secure a future for themselves.
We have identified some soft skills that the girls would be interested in learning:
- Hair dressing
- Baking
- Knitting
- Dress making(sewing) etc
These girls will need sponsorship to be able to acquire these skills. Chat SA has only been able to distribute toiletries and washable sanitary towel which is still a huge need for the girls in our communities. CHAT SA welcomes any form of support in this regard.
